School policies and rules

Attendance
There are approximately 182 school days in a year. Children, who are absent regularly, jeopardize both their academic and social achievement. To enhance the growth of today's child, it is necessary that your child be present for special activities as well as regular school days.

If your child is sick or going to be absent or late for school, please notify the school prior to 8:00 a.m.

It is also necessary to call each day of the illness, unless of course the duration can be foreseen and the school has been notified.

If you intend to take your child out of school early or at any point during the day for an appointment, you should call ahead so that the teacher may plan for your child's departure.

Illness
Parents are requested not to send children to school who is not feeling well. Facilities at the school are not adequate to care for sick children. If a child is well enough to attend school, then (s)he is also well enough to take gym and go outside for recess and lunch. (Exceptions will be made for specific medical conditions supported by a doctor's note).

Punctuality
Punctuality is a habit we hope to instill in all of our students. Students who arrive late in the morning must report to the office to pick up their attendance cards before going to class.

Medication
If your child is on medication, please make every effort to give the medication at home. If for some reason the child must be given his/her medication during school hours, please send the Reverside medication form. The note and the medication must be given to the school secretary in the morning.

Allergies
We are devoted to the well being an health of all of our children. Some of our students are extremely allergic to peanuts and other types of nuts. Even a minimal quantity of nuts can induce very severe allergic reactions in these children. We are requesting your cooperation in omitting all foods containing nuts from your child's snacks and meals. On behalf of these students we thank you for your cooperation.

Parental Responsibilities

  • Please sign your child's agenda and check to see that the homework is completed. If a child is having difficulty with homework, please inform the teacher.
  • Please check your child's bag and agenda each day for letters or messages. The agenda is an important instrument of communication.
  • When a letter is sent home requiring an answer, please reply promptly (the next day if possible.)
  • Review the school rules and bus safety rules with your children to ensure that your child understands what is expected. Please sign and ask your child to sign the statement at the bottom of the school Rules page in their agenda.
  • Telephone the school before 8:00 a.m. if your child is going to be absent or late. A note in the child's agenda must accompany any change in your child's normal routine at school. Example: if your child must leave school early.
  • Parents picking up their children early, for a doctor's appointment for example, must report to the office and wait for their children there.
  • All field trips require a written parental permission. Please be sure to sign and send permission slips to the school. If we do not have written permission, the student will not be allowed to participate in the field trip.
  • If a neighbour, relative, or someone who normally does not pick up your child at school is going to do so, please notify the school in advance.
